"We’ve proven a concept for the first time ever in the history of these sorts of rescues in the world… a way to get people out alive," Dix told CNN. Before the floods, one in four children in Nepal were affected by stunting, and the loss of access to diverse, nutritious food threatens to increase malnutrition rates further.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Nepal Electricity Authority confirmed the recovery of a third individual’s body, identified as Binod Pandey. Suresh Raut, deputy manager at the authority, indicated that while search teams are being dispatched to the surrounding area, the possibility of finding other missing people in that specific tunnel is decreasing. The focus now shifts toward the power station itself, where rescuers hope to locate more survivors.
The aftermath of this disaster has left a landscape scarred by mud and debris, with thousands displaced and seeking temporary housing. The Trishuli barracks has served as a critical staging area for evacuations, including medical emergencies such as the recent airlift of a pregnant woman facing complications. Authorities estimate that approximately 20,000 houses will need to be rebuilt in the flood-ravaged areas, with over 7,500 homes already destroyed.
