Authorities have arrested Rahul Meena in connection with the brutal South Delhi rape murder, citing his cold demeanor and links to a similar incident in Alwar.
The investigation into the Delhi IIT Graduate Murder has taken a critical turn with the arrest of Rahul Meena, who has been sent to four days of police custody. Authorities are probing how the accused, a former domestic worker, managed to infiltrate the Kailash Hills apartment complex in South Delhi to commit the heinous crime.
Police sources revealed that Meena entered the residence using a spare key around 6:49 am, having been observed sneaking into the colony just minutes prior. He proceeded directly to a rooftop study where the victim, a 22-year-old daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was preparing for her civil services examination. The accused allegedly assaulted and raped the unconscious victim before dragging her blood-soaked body downstairs.
During interrogation, investigators described Meena as "without remorse," noting his calm and composed demeanor. He reportedly told police that he went to the house solely to steal money, claiming "it just happened" when confronted about the sexual assault. He further remarked that "if didi had given the money, this would not have happened," displaying a matter-of-fact attitude toward the violence.
The accused is also suspected of being a repeat offender. Police are linking him to a rape case in Alwar, Rajasthan, where a woman was attacked hours before the Delhi incident. A special team in Alwar has detained over half a dozen individuals for questioning regarding that case.
Meena allegedly strangled the victim with a mobile phone charging cable and struck her with a heavy object. Afterward, he attempted to open a biometric locker using her fingerprint, but when it failed, he used a screwdriver to break it open. He stole cash and jewelry, changed his blood-stained clothes, and fled the scene approximately 30 minutes before the victim’s parents returned home.
CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts place Meena inside the house for about 40 minutes. He entered the colony at 6:30 am and left at 7:20 am. The crime was discovered when the victim’s parents returned to find her lying in a pool of blood with torn clothes and scattered belongings.
Meena, who had worked as domestic help in the household for eight months before being dismissed a month ago, was familiar with the family’s routine. He allegedly played online Ludo with the victim’s husband. His initial statement claimed he took an ambulance from Alwar to Delhi. Later, he altered his story, stating he booked a car for Rs 5,000 and left the driver without paying after reaching Delhi.
Police are now tracing the chain of events in both Rajasthan and Delhi. They are scanning CCTV footage from the crime scene to a hotel in Dwarka where Meena was arrested. The South Delhi rape murder has highlighted vulnerabilities in domestic security, as the accused exploited his prior access to the home.
The investigation suggests Meena attacked the victim while she was still unconscious. The use of a spare key indicates premeditation or prior knowledge of the household’s security flaws. Police sources emphasized that Meena’s lack of contrition and shifting narratives are significant challenges in building the case.
The link to the Alwar case raises questions about his criminal history. Authorities are treating him as a probable repeat offender. The special team in Alwar, led by SP Sudhir Chaudhary, is coordinating with Delhi police to establish a clear timeline. The victim, an engineering graduate from IIT Delhi, was a promising candidate for the civil services, making the tragedy particularly shocking for her family and community.
Rahul Meena’s arrest marks a significant step in the Delhi IIT Graduate Murder investigation. Police continue to scrutinize his movements between Alwar and Delhi. The case has sparked discussions on domestic worker vetting and security protocols in high-profile residences. As investigations proceed, authorities are likely to uncover more details about his criminal background. The outcome may influence stricter regulations for domestic help in private households. The trauma inflicted on the victim’s family remains profound, with legal proceedings ahead. Public attention remains focused on ensuring justice for the young engineer and holding the accused accountable for his actions.
