A tailor from Ujjain was killed during an alleged drone strike at Kuwait International Airport, moments before his flight home for a family wedding, leaving his relatives in shock.
In a tragic turn of events, a native of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh lost his life in an alleged Iranian strike at the Kuwait International Airport just hours before he was scheduled to board a flight home. His family members confirmed the identity of the deceased on Thursday, June 4, 2026, after receiving information from government officials regarding the incident that unfolded days prior.
Manzoor Ahmed, a 55-year-old resident of Ujjain town, had been working as a tailor in Kuwait for approximately 30 years. He was preparing to travel to his hometown on the morning of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, to attend a family wedding. His son, Mohammad Anas, provided details to reporters, stating that his father had gone to the airport to catch a flight to Mumbai. According to Anas, his father got caught in a drone strike near Terminal 1. The family revealed that Ahmed had been excited about the trip, having spoken to his elderly mother on the night of Tuesday, June 2, 2026. She recalled speaking to him around 11:00 PM that night. He had left home around 6:00 AM on Wednesday morning for the flight.
The family initially tried to contact Ahmed directly but were unable to connect after 9:00 AM on Wednesday. They reached out to his friends in Kuwait, who also had no information. Eventually, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait called to inform them of his death. The embassy, in a statement issued around midnight on June 3, confirmed it was in touch with the family and coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities for the expeditious transportation of his mortal remains.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement condemning the attack in which an Indian national died and several others were injured. The MEA did not disclose the victim’s identity in its official statement but strongly urged that civilian populations and infrastructure must not be targeted since the onset of the conflict in West Asia. The ministry called upon parties to cease such attacks immediately.
Mohammed Ismail, Ahmed’s brother-in-law, stated that the body is expected to arrive in India on the night of Thursday, June 4, 2026. The family plans to take a flight to Ahmedabad to receive the body. They have sought help from the local administration to arrange an ambulance to transport the remains from Ahmedabad to Ujjain, where the last rites will be planned. The incident highlights the fragility of civilian life in conflict zones and the urgent need for diplomatic protection of travelers.
The death of Manzoor Ahmed underscores the escalating dangers faced by civilians in the Middle East, particularly in conflict zones like Kuwait. As tensions between regional powers continue to rise, the targeting of international infrastructure, such as the Kuwait International Airport, poses a significant threat to global travel and expatriate communities. The Indian government’s swift condemnation and coordination with local authorities highlight the importance of diplomatic channels in managing crises affecting its citizens abroad. This event may lead to increased scrutiny of travel advisories for the region and stronger calls for international ceasefires to protect non-combatants from the spillover of geopolitical conflicts.
