Prime Minister Modi calls for unity amidst global conflict, warning against politicizing the crisis while celebrating national strides in culture and sports.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Sunday, March 29, 2026, during his monthly Mann Ki Baat session. He emphasized that the ongoing conflict in West Asia has created challenging times for India.
Modi noted that while the world was expected to move forward on a path of progress after the COVID-19 pandemic, recent conflicts have disrupted this trajectory. He specifically referenced a fierce war in the neighborhood that has been ongoing for a month, directly affecting the millions of Indian family members residing in the Gulf countries.
The Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude to Gulf countries for providing assistance to more than one crore Indians currently stationed there. He identified the West Asian region as a major center for India's energy needs, noting that a crisis regarding petrol and diesel is emerging globally as a result.
Modi urged all 140 crore citizens to unite in overcoming these challenges. He explicitly warned against individuals politicizing the issue, stating there is no place for self-serving politics when the interests of the entire nation are at stake. He also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant against rumors, advising them to trust only the continuous information provided by the government.
Beyond the crisis, Modi highlighted several nation-building initiatives. He discussed the Gyan Bharatam Survey, which aims to collect information about manuscripts across the country. He urged citizens to share images of manuscripts via the Gyan Bharatam App, noting that thousands have already been shared and are being verified before recording.
He also lauded the MY Bharat budget quest, designed to connect youth with the budget process and policymaking. Nearly 12 lakh youth participated in the quiz, with approximately 160,000 selected for the essay competition. Modi personally read some essays, citing them as evidence of the youth's eagerness to contribute to the country's development.
The Prime Minister dedicated a significant portion of his address to India's recent sporting achievements. He recalled the historic victory in the T20 World Cup, which sparked a wave of joy across the country.
On a recent match in Hubli, Karnataka, the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team secured the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy title. This victory marks the end of a seven-decade wait for the team's first title. Modi remarked that this success will encourage young people to take up sports, noting the tremendous passion the people of J&K hold for athletic endeavors.
He observed that Jammu and Kashmir is becoming a hub for major sporting events, citing Gulmarg as the host of the Khelo India Winter Games. With football gaining popularity among the youth there, Modi expressed his hope that this winning streak continues in the future.
The Prime Minister's address underscores the delicate balance between domestic stability and international solidarity. As the Iran Israel war continues to impact global energy markets, the reliance on Gulf nations for both energy and the safety of the Indian diaspora remains a critical pillar of India's foreign and domestic policy. The PM's call to stop politicizing the crisis suggests a strategic focus on maintaining functional relationships with host nations to ensure the continued support for the one crore Indians working in the region. Looking ahead, the emphasis on digital engagement through initiatives like Gyan Bharatam and the MY Bharat budget quest indicates a government strategy to foster national cohesion and youth participation. By diverting attention from divisive political rhetoric to constructive nation-building and celebrating regional sporting successes like the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy, the administration aims to cultivate a resilient national spirit capable of weathering external economic shocks. The continuation of sports events in J&K, such as the Winter Games in Gulmarg, further signals an intent to leverage the region's unique geography for economic and social integration, ensuring that the "winning streak" in sports translates into broader developmental progress for the state.
