Amidst a massive question paper leak scandal, the government is turning to the Indian Air Force to secure the NEET-UG 2026 re-test logistics.
The government is actively considering the involvement of the defense forces to manage the critical logistics and transportation required for the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-test. This significant security measure is scheduled for June 21 and follows the abrupt cancellation of the original examination due to serious integrity concerns. Top sources within the Ministry of Defence have confirmed that a high-level strategic meeting was held at the residence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
During this crucial gathering, which took place to address the ongoing crisis, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia were present. Officers from the Indian Air Force were also in attendance, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the potential for military-grade security protocols to be implemented for the exam administration.
According to informed officials, a formal proposal has been prepared to deploy the IAF to provide robust transportation and logistics support. The primary objective is to securely move question papers from printing presses to examination centers across the entire country. The final decision on this deployment is expected to be made after further consultations with the Prime Minister’s Office.
Currently, question papers are dispatched via the national postal network. This existing method involves multiple handling points and numerous officials, which has been identified as a vulnerability. The proposed IAF-backed mechanism aims to minimize the risk of leaks and significantly strengthen security protocols by reducing the number of handlers and increasing transit security.
“IAF will discuss the practical details with officials concerned with the examination to execute the plan if it gets approval from the Ministry,” an official explained. This statement highlights the conditional nature of the proposal, which awaits higher-level political approval before operational details can be finalized.
The decision to seek military assistance comes in the wake of the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which was originally conducted on May 3 for more than 22 lakh candidates. The National Testing Agency (NTA) canceled the exam on May 12 following allegations of an organized paper leak and suspected insider involvement. This incident has sparked a nationwide debate on the integrity of competitive exams in India.
The case is currently under active investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Authorities have so far arrested 11 accused individuals from multiple states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. These arrests indicate a coordinated effort to dismantle the network responsible for the question paper leak, which affected millions of aspirants.
The scale of the leak necessitated a complete overhaul of the security framework for the re-test. The involvement of the defense forces represents a shift from standard administrative procedures to a national security-level operation. This move is intended to restore public trust in the examination process and ensure that the re-test is conducted without any further irregularities.
