The CBSE re-evaluation portal has processed nearly 40,000 applications successfully, offering a streamlined digital path for Class 12 students seeking answer book verification.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced that nearly 40,000 students have successfully completed the application process for the verification and re-evaluation of their Class 12 answer books via the online portal without encountering significant issues as of Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026. This milestone marks a critical operational success for the board following a delayed launch and initial concerns raised by stakeholders regarding technical stability.
The development follows intense scrutiny and criticism from students and parents regarding the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for exam evaluations. In response to dissatisfaction with the initial evaluation results, the CBSE opened the online portal on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to allow students to request a review of their scanned answer book copies. The board faced prior accusations of technical glitches, payment failures, and access barriers, prompting the board to emphasize that the facility is exclusively available to those who have obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books.
To facilitate the CBSE Class 12 verification process, the board has established specific digital protocols to ensure a secure and accessible experience for all candidates. The portal utilizes an Aadhaar-based login system, a security measure introduced by the CBSE to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the authenticity of each application. Students are required to log in through the official CBSE website using their Aadhaar number to submit their applications digitally.
The payment infrastructure is robust, featuring gateways from four major public sector banks: State Bank of India (SBI), Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Indian Bank. The CBSE clarified that students do not need to possess a bank account with these specific institutions to complete the transaction. Instead, candidates can utilize any of the supported online payment options, including Unified Payments Interface (UPI), net banking, credit cards, and debit cards, through the designated secure gateways.
Despite the smooth processing of thousands of applications so far, the board acknowledged earlier security challenges. The CBSE reported that "malicious actors" attempted to disrupt the services of the re-evaluation portal through a barrage of cyberattacks. These included a denial-of-service attack that generated 1.5 million hits on the platform within just two minutes, along with over one lakh attempts to access unauthorized files. In response to student feedback regarding user experience, the board has implemented further improvements, including extended session time limits, and stated that their technical teams remain on constant watch to ensure the platform remains secure, reliable, and student-friendly.
The application window for the CBSE re-evaluation portal is strictly limited and will remain open from June 2 to June 6, closing at midnight on the latter date. The CBSE has issued a firm directive that no offline applications or requests submitted after this deadline will be accepted. Candidates are advised to submit their applications within this stipulated timeline to ensure their requests are considered.
The fee structure for the process is clearly defined. For the verification of issues observed in the supplied scanned copies of answer books, such as missing pages, missing supplementary sheets, missing maps or graphs, blurred pages, incorrect answer books, or evaluation against a different question paper set, the fee is ₹100 per answer book. For the re-evaluation of answers, the charge is ₹25 per question. Students are permitted to submit only one application each for verification of issues and re-evaluation.
The board has emphasized the importance of accuracy during the submission process. Once a student clicks the 'freeze and proceed to payment' button, the details are locked and cannot be edited. Consequently, students are strongly advised to ensure that all details are correct and that all requests across subjects are included before final submission. Applications are treated as successfully submitted only after the online payment is completed.
To assist candidates in navigating the complexities of the application, the CBSE has provided a visual guide and a tutorial video. Students seeking re-evaluation can apply for one or more questions across one or more subjects by providing specific details, including the question number and page number, as applicable. The board has reiterated that outcomes of these requests will be communicated once the evaluation process is complete.
The successful processing of 40,000 applications by the CBSE re-evaluation portal indicates a significant shift in how the board handles evaluation disputes, moving from a delayed and criticized launch to a stable, digital-first approach. The implementation of strict security protocols and clear fee structures suggests a long-term strategy to mitigate cyber threats and administrative confusion. As the June 6 deadline approaches, the CBSE faces the task of maintaining platform stability under increasing volume, potentially setting a new precedent for automated, transparent dispute resolution in Indian secondary education assessments.
